Organisational

Organisational reviews and strategic planning – we have helped not-for-profit organisations and their leaders to undertake strategic reviews, address their organisational challenges and develop new strategic plans to help them move forward with greater impact. Examples of our work – Schumacher UK strategy review

Processes and efficiency – we help charities and the teams within them to review their processes, resourcing and capabilities so that they can work in more efficient ways and achieve greater impact. This includes how teams organise themselves, how workload is managed and how impact is measured.

Fundraising

Fundraising and communications – we help charities produce plans that integrate their various communications with individuals – including fundraising, campaigning, events and other communications – in order to maximise their cumulative impact. Examples of our work – Humanists UK strategies | Surfers Against Sewage fundraising plan sprint | CND fundraising & communications plan

Individual giving and membership – a coherent plan is an essential foundation of any Individual Giving or membership programme, and we have produced effective plans for charities of all sizes and stages in their fundraising development. We can also produce specific elements of IG planning, such as supporter journeys and donor care reviews. Examples of our work – Epilepsy Action IG plan | Jamie’s Farm IG plan | Albion in the Community IG plan

Regular giving scheme development – we have helped many charities to create engaging regular giving schemes that build supporter loyalty. This includes strategic elements such as communication plans and supporter journeys, as well as creative and branding for these schemes (see Creative section). Examples of our work –  Addenbrooke’s Hospital ‘Friends of Addenbrooke’s’ | Kids OR regular giving scheme | Albion in the Community ‘Community Champions’

Supporter recruitment touch point reviews – recruiting new supporters for your cause can be expensive and difficult. Before you spend money on this, it therefore makes sense to make sure you’re making the most of the people who have already encountered your organisation in some way, as these will be warmer and cheaper to contact. Our ‘touch point reviews’ help you to identify the different ways and places people come into contact with your organisation and then plan how you can optimise each of these to recruit new supporters in the most effective way. This could save you a lot of money! Examples of our work – Education support recruitment channel review | Albion in the Community touch point review

Communications

Communications reviews and plans – we can help you review the effectiveness of your current communications tactics and strategy, and build plans to enable you to achieve more impact.

Behaviour change consultancy – we use the latest insights from psychology and other behavioural sciences to help you build communications, campaigns and initiatives that promote positive behaviours in more effective ways – from promoting healthier lifestyles through to reducing bullying or littering. Examples of our work – Remain campaign – learning the lessons of Brexit

Client quotes

Richard came in to support the SMT as I (the CEO) started my return to work following maternity leave. He quickly absorbed all the information and knowledge about the business and worked with the team to help diagnose where things were not performing as well as they could and why. Together, we worked out a strategy for improving it. Richard offers a unique combination of really being able to listen and meet people where they are at, whilst having great business acumen. He leads without ego and is an excellent executive coach. I would recommend him without hesitation.
Esther Foreman, CEO, Social Change Agency

We suspected legacies could be a source of new income for our charity, and – with Changestar’s help – we’ve been blown away by the results. Not only has our legacy income increased, but it now represents one of the largest, if not the largest single source of voluntary income that we receive. It’s also allowed us to engage with our supporters on a whole new level – being able to thank them for taking such an act of faith really strengthens our connection with our supporters.
Paul White, former Head of Supporter Recruitment & Development, FFI
